Time to Talk day – Thursday 5 February 2026

Time to Talk day is on Thursday 5 February 2026 and it is where all of Wales is asked to have a conversation about mental health, even just five minutes.

Mental illness is more common than most people realise, affecting one in four of us and potentially more due to the last few years with Covid, which might have made us feel lonely, isolated, experienced bereavement or struggling to look after dependents.  Yet people are still uncomfortable to talk about mental health and mental illness, we are sometimes concerned that we may make someone more upset if you ask, ‘how are you?’ – you won’t.

The aim of the day is to have small conversations about mental health to make us all feel comfortable within our community talking about mental health and mental illness. This can be just taking 5 minutes out of our busy life to reflect and take time to talk about mental health. It could be:

  • making a phone call to a colleague who you haven’t heard from for a while
  • calling a family member to check they are ok and have everything they need
  • reaching out to someone you think is lonely or struggled over Christmas
  • having a zoom/teams team catch up to simply have a coffee
  • going for a walk with someone
  • simply asking everyone that day ‘how are you?, How are you really?’
