Autumn is well & truly upon us and lots of children (and staff!) have got coughs and colds. We have however had some children that have had Strep A which is infectious but is easily treatable with a short course of antibiotics. If you feel that your child has more than a sore throat with their cold, they can be swabbed at any pharmacy for Strep A, or for younger children this can be done by a GP.
Common symptoms of strep A include:
- flu-like symptoms, such as a high temperature, swollen glands or an aching body
- sore throat (strep throat or tonsillitis)
- a rash that feels rough, like sandpaper (scarlet fever)
- scabs and sores (impetigo)
- pain and swelling (cellulitis)
- severe muscle aches
- nausea and vomiting
