Applications for secondary school places for the September 2027 intake are now open.
The closing date for receipt of on-time applications is 31 October 2026.
Late applications are processed after those received on time, so it is important you submit your application by the closing date – 31 October 2026.
It is strongly recommended that you list more than one preference when making your application. Listing only one school, or listing the same school multiple times, does not result in a better chance of being offered that school. However, if you list only one preference and this is unsuccessful, any new preferences that you add after the closing date will be ‘late’ applications.
Open evenings
Our secondary schools will be holding their open evenings in the coming weeks. If you’re looking at options, they can be a great opportunity for both parents, guardians and children to visit schools to get an idea of what they are like. The dates for all school open evenings are available on our website.
Applying for a school outside of Wrexham
If you live in Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire or Shropshire you must apply to your home local authority, even if the school you are applying to is over the border. These local authorities have a co-ordinated admissions arrangement.
This means that when a Wrexham resident submits an application to Wrexham’s admissions team, if the application lists a preference for a school in one of these three counties (for example, Ysgol Castell Alun in Flintshire, Ysgol Dinas Bran in Denbighshire, St. Martins in Shropshire) we will send your application to the correct admitting authority. You do not need to make separate applications to these local authorities. You should only apply to the authority where you live and add all school preferences to this one application.
