As you are already aware, as a school, we will be moving to mixed-age classes from September. While this change has been influenced by inconsistent pupil numbers, we are embracing the opportunities it brings, particularly for collaboration and sharing good practice across classes.
From September, there will be a number of mixed-age classes across the school. Please be reassured that these classes are not organised by academic ability. Instead, we give careful thought to each child’s friendships and wellbeing when deciding class groupings, so that every child feels happy, secure and ready to learn.
Where there are parallel classes (for example, two Year 4/5 classes), teachers will work closely together to plan and deliver learning. This means children will benefit from similar experiences and opportunities, while lessons are still tailored to meet the needs of the pupils in each class.
As is already the case in our school, teaching will continue to be planned around each child’s individual needs and progress. We will ensure that all pupils are well supported and appropriately challenged as they move forward in their learning.
Children will meet their new teacher during the transition morning on Wednesday 8th July, which will help them feel confident and familiar as they move into September.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch, we are always happy to help. We are really looking forward to September and the new opportunities and experiences this will bring for all of our children.
