Free lunches – healthy snacks and lunch boxes

School Lunches
Many of our children in Reception to Year 2 are now enjoying their free school lunches. This is a brilliant initiative to help families with the increasing cost of living. Today we have been informed that this will now roll out to years 3 to 6 in September 2023- brilliant news!
Don’t forget to still register for free school meals if you are eligible, as this will enable you to access uniform grants, equipment grants etc and provides the school with funding to support children’s learning and wellbeing.  Please contact the school office for more information
Healthy lunch boxes
Children can bring in their own healthy packed lunch from home.  Please do this in a named container/lunch box to help your child.  We are proud to have been awarded ‘Healthy School’ status and ask you provide your child with a balanced & healthy lunch. Please ensure packed lunches do not contain fizzy drinks, bars of chocolate or sweets. We ask you do not send in nuts/nut products, in your child’s lunch box due to the severe allergic reaction they can cause in some other children.  For some great tips and inspiration for healthy lunch boxes, have a look at these sites:

Healthy Snacks

We are a healthy school and welcome parents sending a healthy snack for children to eat during break: fruit or vegetables and water to drink. Please do not send in crisps, sweets or chocolate, jelly, yoghurts, cheesey dips, salami sticks etc.   Pupils in Nursery and Reception are provided with a snack each day. This costs £1 per week and can be paid each week to the class teacher or via Parent Pay.

We are currently reviewing our provision for playtime snacks from September to help support the pupils in developing inline with the new curriculum for Wales  as ‘Healthy, Confident Individuals’

Keep your eyes open for a short survey!   We will be gathering ideas from the children too.

Keep an eye out for our Healthy eating competition soon too !
